PJO MOVIE REVIEW ~*MAJOR SPOILER ALERT* ~

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR MOVIE! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MOVIE...OKAY?

SPOILER ALERT!

You can't say I didn't warn you.

Okay.

I'll do this in lists.

Things I Liked About The Film

- LOGAN. Okay. I have to say it. HE IS THE PERFECT PERCY JACKSON. He is actually amazing in it. Not just in looks, either - he's convincing and really endearing, completely hilarious at times and gives an AMAZING performance. The bits with him and Gabe were GREAT, those were my favourite. The Sally/Percy/Gabe dynamic was the best working relationship of the film. I LOVE HIM. The kid needs a major career, I'm telling you. Best lines ~ "I really should be on medication..." And the giggling. He has a great giggle. He also seems to hug, like, EVERYONE in the film XD

- BRANDON. I was sceptical when he was first cast, but I shouldn't have been - he was by far the funniest character as Grover, and again very convincing. It was like the script-writer had given everyone else the crappy lines and saved all the good ones for Brandon. Best lines (there were many to choose from) ~ "Burning money? In a recession? That's gotta be like treason or something..." "Don't kill them! Don't kill them! Those are working class Americans!" Plus, he's a total pervert in this film, which weirdly I kind of liked :)

- THE CGI. Epic.

- HADES. He was amusing.

- THE GODS' BRITISH ACCENT. I just thought it was cool that they were all English. :)

- GABE. He was perfect. Best line ~ "It was when my stepson turned to drink and drugs it all went wrong..." Percy: Oh, man...

- LUKE. Some didn't like him, others hated his guts, but personally I thought he was pretty good.

- CAMP HALF BLOOD. Really amazing set - it was gorgeous. The Capture the Flag game was JUST like I imagined it.

- MEDUSA. Uma Thurman rocked, man. And the woman running around her emporium was like something out of a horror movie...

Bits I Did Not Like
- ALEXANDRA DADDARIO. Meh. She wasn't the WORST... She was just average. She wasn't the Annabeth we knew - if anything, she was kind of lack-lustre.

-PERCABETH. It was kind of hinted at... And then besmirched. Meh. Unaided by the fact that Daddario is NOT Annabeth Chase.

- SCRIPTING. Possibly the weakest element of the film. Craig Titley should be ashamed - the script was dire and cheesy, with the most cliche ridiculous nonsense littering the scenes. Meh.

- THE BIT WHERE THEY GOT DRUGGED. That was just weird. Though I liked Logan's giggle.

- THE MUSIC. The Lady Gaga song did NOT fit in, neither did the Grover dancingness! Plus the score was completely generic and unoriginal - it marred potentially good scenes. And someone said, "Good luck, you're on a highway to hell." So the song Highway To Hell started playing. *sigh*

- THE FACT THAT DADDARIO HAD HER HANDS ALL OVER LOGAN. No fair. ;)

- THE GODS' SIZE. They were HUGE - when Percy and Annabeth spoke to them, it looked like something out of Honey I Shrunk The Kids.

- THE CHEESE. All kind of cheesy.

- PERCY'S MOM. I liked her a lot, but it was the way Percy seemed not very upset his mum had died for like most of the film...

- THE CORNY POSEIDON/PERCY MEETING. I thought the bit in the book where Poseidon and Percy met was BRILLIANT, but in the movie it was cliche and dull.

- THE ABSENCE OF KRONOS. Luke was kind of trying to overthrow the earth...on his own. Which was kind of lame.

- CHIRON. Pierce Brosnan. You were god-awful.

- FAILURE TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING. They didn't explain anything at all. They skimmed over Chiron's amazing explanations and stuff. Not chuffed.

Major Plot Changes

- The whole plot is the three demigods (Alex, Logan, Brandon) travelling to find 'Persephone's Pearls', which are hidden across America which will allow them to escape from the Underworld
- Poseidon stayed with Sally and Percy when he was a baby, but this was turning him into a mortal (?) so Zeus decreed Gods couldn't see their kids. Um..no.
- No Kronos. Lame, lame, lame.
- No Ares! That was a shame, I really liked him.
- The Hydra features, Proscrutes and the Chimera do not, nor does the Denver Waterpark stuff... All they do is go to a modern-day Parthenon, a casino in Vegas (Lotus Casino) and Medusa's lair, which was a bit of a disappointment.
- You know the heartbreaking decision Percy has to make, to leave his mom behind in the Underworld? Well, he doesn't have to make it. GROVER stays behind, then Zeus brings him back. Weird.
- Persephone coming on to Grover. Sexually inappropriate.
- The whole Logan holding Alex's hand when he was in the pool. Weeeeeeeird.
- Luke's confession that he was the lightning thief. It was dull.

Overall rating - 6/10, for pure entertainment value and the fact that Logan is the most talented thing since sliced bread.

But I might see it again. JUST for Logan's sake :)

TTYL,

Love,

Isn't Logan like the cutest thing ever? I'm like "Can I have one of those hugs?" And yes...his giggle...ah. Amazing actor as well.
I loved Grover and I thought Luke was AMAZING! And the thing that can be said for Chiron...amazing special effects there. Plot was...lame and predictable. And I hate, hate, HATE that girl who played Annabeth. Like seriously? And were those color contacts? Or does she just have creepy eyes? And she and Logan had NO chemistry. AT ALL. Which is not suprising, considering she's like 23 and he's 16. Also...where did the Luke/Annabeth relationship go? That's one of my favorite parts; all the complexity of it...*sigh* But as you said, I must go see it again, for Logan's sake...I legit started BOUNCING every time they have a close up shot of him...

I have to agree with you about Logan and Alex...he was perfectly Percy, and she was...not really Annabeth. Though I think it wasn't even her so much as the screenwriter/director not capturing the character particularly convincingly. It's sad, in a way, because it's like watching Percy come to life, and maybe with a different actress/writer, it would have been like watching Percabeth come to life. But as it is, the relationship is cute but not amazing.

Okay, on to important matters--when are we getting the end of Click? (No, I will never stop bugging you about this.)

And where on earth was Mr. D??

Just sayin'.

P.S. And I actually kind of liked the Lotus scene. It was hilariously bad and I was laughing my head off for like, the rest of the movie and beyond. Oops. /lame

I actually kinda liked the movie! U just have to go into them with a clear mind and try not to be judgemental. I know it's hard but if you really did go into the mvie with an open mind it was AWESOME!! the guy who played Charon (i think!) was amazing. I loved how Alexandra Daddario acted like annabeth, even though she didn't have blonde hair. Oh well you can't get everything exactly like the book. Logan Lerman made a PERFECT PERCY! and Grover was well casted. I thought Chiron and Luke were hilarious and i loved when Grover held medusa's head up and was like i can't pee wwith this thing watching me!! Then the cleaning walks by and starts screaming her head off. I'm sorry but that was hilarious.

Giggle giggle giggle!!! I'm in love with him!!! So in love that I went and saw it at midnight, then I saw it again the next day!!! Wow, I didn't get it I mean how WRONG cna they get? Killing Luke? TOTALLY unnessesary!!! Apparently Thalia turned into a doorway... NO Thalia tree!!! Also no three little demigods running around before Percy. What, no Friendship? Also, Annabeth, i have to disagree on that one. She wasn't amazing, but I don't think I would've wanted anyone else to play her. Grover was the bomb!!! I TOTALLY misjudged him. BTW no Clarrise? I don't get it!!! DO NOT!!! Capture the flag. That was interesting. (Interesting meaning WHAT THE HECK WAS WRONG WITH ANNABETH?!?!?!?) I mean seriously!!! In the book, she WANTED him on her team. She didn't turn into some phycotic sword-swinging maniac!!! I totally wish that I could have wrote the script!!!Ii would have gotten things 100% correct! Not 48%. Overall, entirtaining, but not the best.

I agree with you: I thought Logan was totally Percy, and that Brandon was and amazing Grover, except well, he wasn't like the actual character in the book, but you know, he was still pretty awesome. Jake Abel(Luke) did pretty ok too, but the confession, I agree, LAME!!! Alexandria Daddario doesn't even deserve to have been casted as Annabeth, one of my favourite characters in the series. It was soooo stupid. She should have gone for like Clarisse and let someone else who atleast almost looks like annabeth. I hate how there was no Percy 'becoming one with the plumbing', and how there was no Clarisse, though I did like how they made the underworld and stuff seem so cool. Medusa was spot on. I thought they just took her out right out of the book. Chiron was... Ok, not exactly what I was hopeing for, but... eh. The Luke/Annabeth thing really bugged me. It was completely nonexistent. It was like they didn't even know each other!!!! Another thing... WHERE THE HELL DID DIONYSuS GO????? I'll admit, the lotus scene was ok, but again NOT FROM THE BOOK!!! sometimes, i really feel like murdering Chris Columbus and all the other people who were involved in the scripting and casting... I mean, did they even look at the book??? Also, when did the plot change from finding the lightning theif/ sally to 'finding the magic pearls that make you go POOF!'??? I really missed the Percy/Ares fightscene because that would have been totally awesome to watch. Also, where was Kronos? NO creepy voice, No creepy dreams, NOTHING!! It's like he didn't even exist!!
I wish Rick Riordan had stood up for his book and made them keep a huge chunk of the book including the plot. It would have made the whole thing soooo much better to watch!!!
